Guns N’ Roses Make Epic Comeback and Sell 1 Million Concerts Tickets in 24Hrs

Long-time rockers Guns N’ Roses have given the music world a shock this month, after selling a staggering one million concert tickets in just a day. The legendary band are considered to be one of the greatest rock outfits on the planet, but this is a huge achievement even for them.

The 2017 Canadian and European tour will be followed by a run of shows in Japan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and Dubai. The North American leg has already been a roaring success and taken in around $90 million in ticket sales. This makes is the highest grossing music tour of the year.

Guns N’ Roses have always been blessed with a rabidly loyal fan base. However, the response to 2008 album Chinese Democracy was pretty lukewarm. After a seventeen year wait for new music, challenging the critics turned out to be tough. The release resulted in mediocre reviews and left many fans left conflicted.

There’s also the inescapable fact that Guns N’ Roses are getting old. In April 2016, he was wheeled onto the stage in Las Vegas after breaking his foot. It was a sharp reminder to fans that this band have been rocking out since 1985. They’re veterans of the music world now – the grandparents of hard rock and heavy metal.

Yet, in spite of all this – in spite of being the butt of the media joke for some time – frontman Axl Rose continues to get up on stage and kill it. He named the upcoming tour ‘Not in Your Lifetime,’ because this was his response to the suggestion that Guns N’ Roses reunite way back in 2012.

‘Not in Your Lifetime,’ he said, but the Guns N’ Roses of today are selling out mammoth venues so fast that they’re being forced to put on extra shows. One additional date has now been added to the tour at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, in London.

The line-up that will appear on tour is the original Guns N’ Roses, but minus Izzy Stradlin, who decided not to join the gang. Original members Duff McKagan and, of course, Slash will be tearing through classic songs and treating fans to a visual spectacle.

Guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Frank Ferrer, and keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese will also be on the tour.

In the meantime, Axl Rose is keen to show fans that he’ll never be too old for a little controversy. During a show in Mexico City, he ended up smashing a Donald Trump piñata to smithereens, in front of a delighted crowd.

As the rest of Guns N’ Roses joined in, he told the packed venue to ‘Express yourself, however you feel.’ It is a fitting message for a musician whose opinions have, repeatedly, landed him in trouble over the years.Rose has made enemies of everybody from Offspring to Metallica, Eagles of Death Metal, and even Tommy Hilfiger (yes, the fashion designer). The feud between himself and guitarist Slash lasted decades and consigned the band to a music wilderness for a very long time.

Yet, it seems like age has softened the frontman, who is now nearing 55 years of age. He has surely got a lot of years left, but most fans aren’t sad to see maturity mellowing him out. For the people who have been with Guns N’ Roses for twenty years or more, nothing feels better than watching them rip through Welcome to the Jungle like it’s still 1987.
